SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Thank you for your interest in The Innovation Press. We are always excited to receive queries and submissions from agents and writers that are in-line with our company mission.
We offer our authors an advance + royalties, extensive publicity, and an active role in the creation of beautiful books they are proud of. We have worldwide distribution and foreign rights representation.
To determine what materials to submit, please find the heading below that best describes your type of submission.
***PLEASE NOTE: If you have mimicked the style, structure, rhyme, or plot of a book that is already in existence, we are not interested in your submission. We only wish to receive ORIGINAL work, not work that has been heavily inspired.***
ILLUSTRATOR SUBMISSIONS
If you are an illustrator interested in working with us on future titles, please feel free to email us a link to your online portfolio at submissions@theinnovationpress.com. While we do tend to work with illustrators who have several successful traditionally published books under their belt and/or illustrators with advanced degrees in children's illustration/graphic design, we do occasionally take on debut illustrators. As such, we encourage illustrators with all levels of experience to submit portfolios and would like to note that we are especially interested in POC illustrators given the diverse characters represented in our books.
NON-FICTION and FICTION SUBMISSIONS (picture book, chapter book, middle grade, and graphic novel)
At this time, we are only interested in submissions that appeal primarily to a PreK-5th grade audience. Your presentation of the material should be creative and engaging. We are particularly interested in hybrid texts that blend fiction elements with nonfiction elements, though we also welcome traditional fiction and nonfiction submissions. We love books that make us laugh and we get excited when we see a presentation/approach or subject we have not seen before. We are also actively seeking #OwnVoices submissions.
To submit a book proposal, please include the following in an email to submissions@theinnovationpress.com:
A synopsis of your book
The first 10 pages
A brief author biography
ACTIVITY BOOKS
Activity books submissions should inspire children's creativity and/or learning. We are particularly interested in activity books that strengthen STEM skills, promote child-led learning, and/or promote open-ended play. Submissions should be written by a single author (no collaborative projects, please).
If you are submitting an activity book proposal, please be aware that we are most interested in activity book authors that have a strong blogging platform (though we don't have any hard requirements, a general rule of thumb is at least 300,000 pageviews a month and 10,000 followers on Facebook or Instagram and Pinterest).
Potential authors should have advanced degrees and/or several years of experience in their field.
To submit an activity book proposal, please include the following in an email to submissions@theinnovationpress.com:
A detailed outline of your book (please note which material has previously appeared on your blog in some way)
The full introduction and one full chapter
If you are planning a full-color book, at least one set of photos to accompany part or all of the full chapter you are submitting
A brief biography detailing your experience and any degrees you have
Any statistics on your blog platform (pageviews, social media numbers, etc)
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we regretfully cannot reply to each individual. If we are interested in your submission we will be in touch within 3-4 weeks. If you have not heard from us after 4 weeks you may assume that we are passing on your manuscript.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING!
